Challenge 24

Next competition - Summer 2002 - Please use enquirey sheet to register interest

Aims:

Challenge 24’s aim is to enhance the potential of youth by developing diverse skills, enterprise, time management, and the discipline to work collaboratively within a challenging and competitive residential environment.

Objectives:

  • To provide the challenge of real, open-ended problems

  • To develop creative problem solving approaches and techniques using ICT

  • To foster cooperative learning and team work

  • To promote knowledge and appreciation of self and others

  • To encourage experimentation and risk taking

  • To expand and reward creative and divergent thinking

  • To stimulate a spirit of inquiry and a love of learning

How It Will Work:

Teams of six students will be taken on a 24 hour residential tournament where they will be set four challenges that will be judged against set criteria. Each challenge will involve different combinations of multiple intelligences to ensure that all multiple intelligences are covered. At least two of the challenges will include ICT including the use of digital cameras, powerpoint software and the internet. Challenges will be open ended and require creative, divergent thinking in their solution.

A pilot scheme operated very successfully with students from Abbey Wood,  Plumstead Manor and Eaglesfield in the summer of 2001. For further information please contact any of the school co-ordinators.
